I am so excited to invite you to the PTI Asia conference in Bali, on 25-27 October 2024.

“What’s at the very heart of our work as play Therapists? Why of course, helping troubled children!” we hear ourselves answer. But just how do we do it?
As play therapists we relate to children through the language of their play. We are playfully responsive to them through the various creative and expressive modalities they select, whilst also tuning into the emotional frequencies that resonate within the play therapy space. Here, we are referring to true connection, which is a state of ‘being in relationship’, and it is held by a thread of real caring from the play therapist towards the child client.
What we are considering here, is the quality of ‘being in relationship’ - the presence and quality of the being of the play therapist. How connected, attuned and in contact with the child’s actions, creations and play are we as the play therapist? How available are we to experience something of the inner emotional life of the child and how deeply can we communicate our understanding of this to them? When we respond spontaneously from our hearts, these encounters can have a profound impact on the potential for life-enriching growth for children learning about relationships in relationships. This is when I meet you, and you meet me, through understanding, connecting and relating deeply, together, in play.
Throughout this keynote presentation Dr Lynne Souter-Anderson will share personal examples and draw upon her extensive clinical work, offering case vignettes to explain and expand the notion of deeply relating in play therapy work. Core elements to relating deeply will be explored, helping us to increase our ability to recognise and experience deep moments of connection in the play therapy space, whilst also paying attention to the possibility of boundary violations. Finally, the presentation will share ways to keep ourselves open to deeper connections with others, thus enriching both our personal and professional lives.
"Transformative Tools" is a 4-hour workshop designed to enrich your play therapy practice by mastering emotional regulation and co-regulation. Emotional regulation involves being aware of our emotions and making conscious choices in response to them, regardless of the emotional state. While co-regulation entails supporting your client amid the uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, and sensations that arise without avoiding or merging with your client.
In this workshop, you will explore and refine how these concepts create a safe, nurturing environment essential for fostering deeper connections and therapeutic growth. You will actively engage in developing your own emotional regulation toolkit, tailored to your unique needs and therapeutic style. This personalized toolkit will include practical strategies and techniques for managing both your own emotions and those of your clients with diverse emotional needs, including grief, trauma, aggression, and withdrawal.
By the end of the workshop, you will know how to enhance your play therapy practice, fostering more resilient and emotionally balanced clients through the effective use of emotional regulation and co-regulation techniques.

Deepening self-awareness helps us become more aware of ourselves so we can be more present in the play therapy room with our clients. Art helps us express and explore our inner worlds so we can understand ourselves better in order to be more present and connect deeply with our clients.
